Challenge

Plastic toys often have short lifecycles, low reuse and recycling rates, and limited traceability once products leave the factory.

Solution

RE-PLAY brings end-to-end digital traceability to recycled plastics used in toy manufacturing. The project connects toy manufacturer Molto with recycler Plasnovo and combines Digital Product Passports, blockchain-based traceability and lifecycle assessment to track material batches, production events and environmental indicators across the value chain. The solution is designed to support both manufacturers and recyclers, with a SaaS model that can help companies manage traceability and compliance as Digital Product Passport requirements expand across Europe.

Impact

The RE-PLAY pilot targets at least 25% more recycled or reused plastic per toy, at least 20% less virgin plastic, and at least 10% lower CO₂-equivalent emissions per unit. By linking recycled materials with reliable digital product information, RE-PLAY demonstrates how traceability can support more circular toy manufacturing, improve material recovery and make sustainability performance easier to monitor and verify.

Toys targeted for digital traceability: 5,000
Virgin plastic reduction target: ≥20%
CO2e reduction target per unit: ≥10%
