GRANULAR GRANite waste to advanced resources through circuLARity

Challenge

Granite extraction and processing generate large quantities of mineral sludge that are difficult to reuse in high-value applications and can accumulate as long-term industrial waste.

Solution

GRANULAR combines mineral-waste valorisation, additive manufacturing and digital supply-chain modelling to create new uses for stone-processing residues. The project develops formulations using granite sludge and bio-based additives, then applies 3D printing to manufacture and validate components for real-world construction and urban applications. Potential commercial routes include direct product sales, custom printing services, formulation know-how and replication of the approach with other mineral-waste streams.

Impact

GRANULAR addresses a stock of more than 120,000 tonnes of granite sludge and aims to replace a high share of virgin raw materials with recovered mineral waste. The project is also validating its solutions in real-world conditions in Occitanie, helping demonstrate how locally available industrial residues can be transformed into useful construction and urban products. By combining waste-derived materials with digital and additive manufacturing, GRANULAR creates a pathway towards higher-value reuse of mineral waste and more circular local production systems.
