Challenge

Metallised polypropylene caps are difficult to recycle through conventional processes and are often incinerated, even though the material still has value and could remain in use for longer.

Solution

SHINE AGAIN creates a local circular value chain that transforms this difficult plastic waste stream into material for new products. The project combines local processing with robotic and digital manufacturing to produce two main product lines: circular trophies and retail or design furniture. Production offcuts are returned to the process, helping keep the material in circulation across multiple product lifecycles.

Impact

SHINE AGAIN reports an approximately 88% lower climate impact for its circular products compared with conventional alternatives. By converting a hard-to-recycle metallised plastic stream into customer-facing products, the project demonstrates how local processing, design and advanced manufacturing can create new value from materials that would otherwise be incinerated. The two defined product routes also provide a practical basis for future market development and replication.
