What is GRETA?
GRETA is a digital assessment and decision-support tool that helps companies evaluate and improve the environmental sustainability of products, processes, and circular strategies. Based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) principles, GRETA enables the comparison of alternative scenarios (e.g. AS-IS vs TO-BE) and the calculation of key environmental indicators across the product life cycle. The tool supports structured data collection and translates assessment results into clear, actionable insights to support informed, data-driven decision-making. This video provides a high-level introduction to GRETA and its core functionalities.
GRETA for LCA: a real case study from the leather sector
GRETA allows end-users to customise production processes modelled by sustainability experts, providing specific values needed for LCA analysis. Once customisation is complete, the assessment can be executed, delivering valuable insights through interactive charts. Beyond assessing individual products, GRETA enables comparisons between different products and process alternatives—an essential feature for eco-design (Gnansounou et al, 2015). It also allows manufacturers to compare multiple products using a radar chart. Thanks to its real-time calculation engine, manufacturers can adjust scenario parameters during the eco-design process to optimise impacts and compare results against previous setups or alternative scenarios. The assessment results, including comparisons, can be automatically compiled into a PDF report, summarising all alternatives, sustainability parameters, and indicators generated by the analysis.
